Aside from maybe a clogged cooler or excessive RPMs for an extended amount of time does anyone know what could cause the oil temp to raise high above normal? I've actually never heard of that happening.

Excessive or prolonged hot EGT will cause a hot oil condition. Diesels use a lube oil spray to keep the piston temp down.
I was thinking of getting a second X-Monitor for engine oil temp, rear diff temp, and either oil pressure or water temp.
