I'm new to Ford trucks and ford-trucks.com. I just bought a 95 F150 XLT yesterday. Searching the forums didn't help me so I hope some of you can.
The truck is missing the passenger side coil spring that holds the hood up. I'm sure I'll be able to find one at the junkyard but I don't know how to safely get it off the junk truck and intall it on my truck. Has anyone done this safely? Is it recommended that I intead replace the whole right hinge? Do the hinges have to be replaced as a pair?
Yesterday, because of the gusting wind, I made myself a wooden prop rod to keep the hood from breaking my neck as I changed the oil and added power steering fluid and coolant. I'd like to have a proper hood spring though.
It's easier to replace the entire hinge, two bolts on the fender support, two bolts on the hood.
If you must just replace the spring, take the hinge out, and do it on your workbench - less tension because there is the weight of the hood isn't on it, making it easier to stretch the spring from the two points.
