cam phaser, engine performance finally fixed

Just thought I would update. Dealer said a new cam phaser for my 05 screw 5.4 was "released" May 2. They put the new part in and then reflashed the PCM per my request (however they did so only after the urging from the service manager who I had a little chat with). Truck runs better than new now with no tapping and great throttle response. My milage went from just under 10 to 15. I would recomend pushing the PCM reflash issue because of the difference. However I am unsure if the PCM or the cam phaser fixed which issue and at this point I don't really care. It runs good and I am happy.

Travisb,

Glad to hear your truck is running well. Would you please post the program number of your reflash? I don't appear to have the phaser issue but my mileage is terrible, 11 mpg around town and 16 mpg in pure freeway driving from a 2004 Scab 4X4 with 5.4 liter.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info travisb. I have the cam phaser problem also. Is this a newly released cam phaser for the 2004 as well as the 2005? I have heard there are some differences between them. I have not pushed getting mine replaced because replacing the phaser has not always solved the problem for some of the people posting on here.

Any extra info would be greatly appreciated. Part #'s, new TSB? etc.
