Smog Pump Problem
I working on my father's F250 with a 5.8L HO and I noticed that he has pinched the smog pump air lines off with a pinch clamp.
Does the pump have some sort of pressure bypass or is the engine fighting directly with the pump to push air out of these air lines?
Should he have blocked it off like that?

Most people just remove the belt that runs the smog pump. I don't believe these pumps generate much pressure, and am sure it would just escape somewhere else, but if he pinched them off and is still running the pump, he is just wasting it. I guess the bearings like to seize after a while. Smog pump was one of the first things I had to replace on my F-250. I just leave the belt off, and put it on for the smog test.
