I have a friend that has a '88-89 F250 auto 460. It runs great, compression test is great, nothing looks abnormal, plugs look OK. They are all the same.
It uses about 1 qt of oil every 100 miles or so.
At times you can see a slight bit of white smoke out the back but very slight.
He bought it used and it has always been like this since he has owned it.
I would say it is leaking the oil rather than burning it. A quart every 100 miles will smoke big time and the smoke will be blueish in color, not white
I had the exact same problem but mine would use a qt. every 60 miles. And it only smoked when you shifted. It did finally foul a plug come to find out cly 4 was using a lot and number 2 was using some. Compression was good plenty of power. Had to rebuilt engine to fix. It would not leave a puddle of oil nowhere and the bottom of engine was dry. These old big blocks and burn a lot of oil and not smoke much
I had one doing this and it turned out to be the intake valve seals. hardly any smoke and about 200 miles per quart. I have to agree with wtroger about the big blocks using a lot of oil with little smoke. The valve seals are very easy to change so I would make that my first priority.
