77.5 f250 4x4 camper special, 351m 4 spd 410:1 gears
It has a edelbrock 4 bbl manifold on it with a holley 600 on it now, the electric choke isnt working and its leaking fuel out the rods that turn with the butterflies. and its running really rich.
The thing is I plan when this motor gives out to swap for a 429 or 460 and I would like to use the same carb for that,
In no way am i looking to make a hor rod outa my truck, fuel mileage is a concern and it running and be tunned to top notch are a must. Will the same size cfm work for a big block as my 351m?
Remember im not looking to go mickey mick mouse duck here just enquiring,
Comments please guys,
p.s. whos had expierance with the holley truck avenger and such and how do you like it? is it worth the extra $$ for it??
the truck avenger carb is not worth the money unless you do all off road driving on steep slopes i would go with a 600 cfm holley its a good carb for both engines
I would definately go with the electric choke. I can't tell you how many times I have run around with my manual choke pulled out. I have a fairly good memory, but it is hard to remember to push the darn thing in after the motor warms up. The Holley is a excellent carb, but I run the Edelbrock because it is so much easier to work on and set up.
I've got the Truck Avenger on the Crew Cab, it's working great! Electric Choke is set, starts up, warms up, then comes off and settles into a nice rough cammed idle.
You can buy oe replacement Holley for about 275 bucks new. Throttle shafts are a common wear spot on all carbs the 600cfm holley is used on 460's as well as the 351 and 390 as a stock carb get the electric choke and put a seperate ground wire on it. The biggest problewm I've seen with electric chokes is bad grounds or no ground.
