I'm wanting to upgrade the audio system in my 05 Expedition Limited and I'm wondering if anyone has used an adapter for keeping the steering wheel controls when upgrading to an aftermarket head unit?
Which brand did you use?
How do you like it?
Which aftermarket head unit are you using?
Thanks
I'm planning on doing it today. If you get an aftermarket head unit with a remote you can use an extra part to send the remote signals from the steering wheel to the radio. Search the web for pac swi-x for some links to it.
I Ordered a Pac SWI-X off ebay this morning for about 60 dollars delivered. Cruchfield has them also for 65 or so. I'm putting my in a excursion with a kenwood headunit. Pacs website had all the manuals on it and It looks strait foward.
Mine is in an working. I placed the ir eye in my upper console right before the dome light. It is so small you can't even notice it. The wire you have to connect to isn't at the steering column but in the harness that plugs into the factory radio. It took me a while to figure this out but pac has very good instructions on there website. Programing wasn't hard either. E-mail me if you have any other questions.
Great thanks, I am looking to place the eye in the same location. I have moon roof controls and no console (or cubby hole). How did you route the wire? Did you have to splice and extend or was it long enough? How did you remove the area of eye placement (just pull straight down)? Thanks,
