Well I finally got it posted, here is a picture of my sub box, mimics the JL stealth box. It is the center seat up front. I used to RF 8's simply because that is what I already had. Don't hit super hard, but they do fill in the lower section nicely. Don't take up any extra space, and it all looks stock when the seat is bolted down.
I think the internal volume I estimated to be close to 1.5 cu.ft. It is actually a little larger than what is needed, but was easier to build it that way. It is a sealed enclosure. I used 3/4mdf for the base and sides, 1/2mdf for the top/round portion. oh and a lot of wood glue and brad nails (I have a brad nailer and finish nailer, I find it easier to work with than screws). Basically traced the foam seat cusion out, made a base frame then started cutting 1/4" - 1" strips depending on the point in the curve with the table saw, this is why I choose the brad nailer, that would be a lot of screws to put in.
So, you still were able to retain the original seat foam and all? I guess the seat lost its seat springs? How does that seat ride? This sure looks like a great idea for us with limited interior space!
I kept the foam, but it is in the attic, I uses a 2" piece of foam that I had from another project for the seat cover. I personally have never ridden there, everyone who has said that it is not bad, but wouldn't want to ride there for long trips. To me the 1.5hrs they rode there would be a long trip. Usually I only have 3 or 4 adults so it is not a problem. Smaller people pobably wouldn't have a problem, but the box doesn't move much, so whom ever sits there usually stares at themselves in the rearveiw.
