I was just wondering if I could run one shock before the axle instead of 2 up front in my '94 f150. It has the dual shocks or quad shock option however you say it but money is tight and I dont want to buy cheap ones. I want KYB's but is it possible to run just one per side?
If you're referring to replacing two(one per side) at a time, there shouldn't be any problem with that. I'd leave the other two in place, and then replace them as time and money allow.
DOnt quote me on it.. but I believe the quad shocks are normal shocks with 1/2 the dampening... so they work the same as 1 shock... Dont trust me on that though.
Nah I just bought 2 KYB GR2's for the rear of front axle. It's going to work at least for now until i can get another paycheck to pay for the front of front axle pair. Anyways I answered my own question. Thanks tho.
moose94, go ahead and do what you plan to. It will work just fine. The towing package shock system is great, especially off road with good shocks. I'd leave the one'e that you are not going to replace on each side in as well, then replace the others when the pocketbook allows. Welcome back!
Thanks TEX! Finally got some replies on this thread. Its a good thread to have because I searched and couldn't find anything. Do you think KYB's are alright? They come with a lifetime warranty so I brake one their goin back. I also have lift springs coming for the front to get it level.
I think I'll use the credit card in a couple weeks and just buy the other front ones.
I have quad shocks and i changed them. When the new ones came in 2 of them up front were the wrong size so i only put 1 on each side for 3 weeks until the new ones arrived. It worked fine. You bought new springs? So your going to join me in trying to align the ttb, eh? You may need new camber/caster bushings if you are using stock ones now. Just remember if the axle pivots are not centered with the center of the wheels your camber will be off. If its not a great amount off the new bushings should put you back into spec.
P.S. What part of Quipamsis are you from? I used to live out in sunvalley park, towards menans cove (i think thats what its called) before that i lived by scott avenue
KYB's are great shocks. Heard somewhere they did Ford OEM's as well, cannot validate that though. Haven't been at the boards as much as the weather has been good and we are building to beat the band, start at 4:30AM end at 7:30 to 8:00 PM or when we're done. Gotta make hay while the sun shines really applies to my business! I levelled the front end of my '96 Bronco as I really didn't haul that much with it and I liked the result. You are gonna need the bushings more than likely though. Later days, guys.

The Valley is alright man. Growing and expanding as there are provisions for a Walmart....what!?!?! Anyways I live on Gondola Point Road along the river. The river rose so much this year the most since 1975 or something. Anyways it was like 10 feet higher. Pretty crazy. We didn't get flooded cause we live on the hill. If the river wants to rise 200 feet it can bring it..lol. Our veiw is nice.
Anyways yeah lift springs. Do you think I need to special order these bushings? Will it make the camber right again? I hate eating tires off. It sucks.
I have one wheel that has bad camber but I just want to throw these springs in and then worry about the camber issue. Anything else I should replace while I have this apart? Bushings or anything?
Also is there a point to dual shocks? I don't tow but does it help offroad? I don't think it gives you a better ride from what I hear. It looks hella cool but that's it. Hmm any ideas?
well i rode pretty hard with 1 shock on each side and i didnt feel much of a difference if any, i think it depends on the spring rate aswell. Changing the coils is pretty easy, as far as camber goes, are your tires both pointing north right now? If you have negative camber /-----\ these new springs you order may not give you the need to order new alignment bushings. You might aswell wait on the bushings until your springs are done.
Thanks 95f150. I have positive camber. The tires look like this - \.......|
I think I know why its like that. The springs are totally sagged because the previous owner ran air bags in there and was eating off the tires. The tires looked like this when i bought the truck \............/. So then I aired down the stupid air bags and that was it. I've been driving it for 2 years now and its time to get this problem solved. I don't want to scallop tires anymore. If I can get 2 1/2 degree camber bushings that should probably do.
We'll see when they get here. I am thinking 2 shocks on each side will make it handle better and be better offroad. But what do you guys think?
I have the single shock setup on my 1995 F150 and it has gone through three sets of front shocks. The last pair was a set of BILSTEINS, which they replaced for free (lifetime guarantee). They ride great when they are new, but I was "shocked" (no pun intended) when they wore out. I've never had a set of Bilsteins wear out before. The rears are still the set of Bilsteins I installed 8 years ago.
If you have the quad shock setup, I'd stick with it. There is a lot of weight up front in these things.
Man, things must be pretty bad if you can't afford shocks! Should we take up a collection? I'll chip in $5.
The quad shock set up was standard with the towing package on the Bronco. As was the rear sway bar. I'd guess that it had a lot to do with the short wheelbase and alleviation of any nose dive tendency as well as overall ride control There are thousands of trucks out there with single front shocks and you should be just fine. With the approach you have taken to address the camber issue and the restoration of the additional two shocks when the eagle flies (or is the the Maple leaf up there, never can figure that out) you will be back to square one and on track. Check your radius arm bushings as well as the lower control arm bushings to be on the safe side.
