hey guys
i've been reading for hours maybe not in right spot, but from what i've read there are some smart people out there.my problem is a serious whine or maybe it's a howl in my 4 speed granny but only in first 3 gears there is no noise in fourth gear. this has got me confused. please help.
beast 12
thankyou for the suggestion rear end dope is very low. i just assumed it was the tranny. i'll get some gear oil tommorow and see if that fixes the noise. would you suggest something extra such as lucas in case of damage?
I'd bet it is your transmission--like a countershaft bearing or something--as it's quiet in 4th gear which is 1 to 1, straight through. If it was the diff, it wouldn't necessary matter what gear you were in....
that's a good possibility but i'm really hoping for beast 12 to be right because that would be a lot easier fix. if it is the countershaft bearing should this be addressed immediatly or just wait till it does what it does. thanks for the response
