Can anyone tell me if I can bolt up a newer V8 in place of my flathead V8 to the existing running gear. This 1948 Ford is the bigger dump truck version. Any information will be appreciated.
Thank You,
David from Calif.

They're compatible, but I don't know of any bolt up deals. Chassis-wise it's pretty simple, but the motor mounts are in the wrong place and bolting your trans to the new engine will need an adapter. Have you considered swapping out your crashbox transmission at the same time. That makes it a lot easier.
Get a tubular engine crossmember and transmission crossmember and bolt it together.
I've seen a few swaps, but with "Y" block motors. That seemed to be the hot setup at the time. I think anything newer would require a engine-tranny out of a later truck and some fabrication of mounts, driveshaft, etc....
