I have been researching rear end gear ratios which lead me to transmissions. I currently have a C4 trans in my 56 but really like the idea of a AOD. Reading some of the threads on this site about AOD transmissions there seems to be a common theme. The linkage fabrication and adjustment for the Throttle Valve is EXTREMELY critical. To the point where it is almost scaring me away from using that trans. How tough is this set up? One of the threads lead me to a site that dealt with "C-4 to AOD swap" ( http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/D...C4AODswap.html ). That article referenced a Super Ford Magazine article titled "A-OK AOD" It was in the May 1990 issue. Does anyone have a copy of this?
Thanks
Scott
There are heavy-duty builders of AOD's, specifically for rodders and draggers --- everyone needs the better mileage now. Check Summit or Pop Hot Rodding etc there should be vendors in there. I know there are places that make revised spools and control bodies to eliminate some of the "peculiarities" of the AOD. It may seem like a lot more at $900+, but you're getting a rebuilt tranny, you know exactly what you're getting, and should have many many trouble-free miles.
If you go electronic (AODE) then everything is controllable through the computer. Baumann Engineering is a great place. I got a 4R70W with their controller in my 69 Bronco and haven't had a problem in over 5 years.
