I should have marked them when I took them off, but I didn't. So now if someone could tell me which heater hose where, I would appreciate it. I'm thinking that it may not matter, but I have been wrong many times before.
Thanks,
Mark
Mark: The principle to remember is this: the liquid should fill the tank from the bottom to the top. This applies to both the automatic transmission cooler tank inside the radiator and the heater core.
Here is why: To properly fill the tank or heater core and purge the air, the liquid must flow from the bottom to the top. If it falls from the top to the bottom, it will never completely fill the tank, and heat exchange (to cool the transmission fluid or heat the cab) woould never occur.
(A radiator is set up differently because the cooler water sinks to the bottom of the radiator, so the hotter water is pumped into the top.)
The water pump sucks coolant from the bottom of the radiator and pumps it into the engine. The upper radiator hose sends hot water into the radiator.
So, your connections should be as follows: The spigot nearest the upper radiator hose should send hot water into the bottom of your heater core. The spigot nearest the water pump would pull cooler water out of the top of the heater core.
OK That is great information, but of the two heater core fittings coming through the firewall, which one goes to the top of the core and which goes to the bottom? There are side by side with one fitting closer to the inner fender than the other. I don't think I can tell top or bottom without tearing the heater apart under the dash and I'd like to avoid that if possible.
Thanks
