ICM/ TFI problems??

hello all, 88 bronco II ....

Replaced the module on the distributor 4 times now and it works great until about 2-4 months into its service life it either stop working at elast im saying this is the problem or it turns on and off... i have replaced the harness that connects to it and it still acts as though it is misfiring and sputtering.. sometimes will lose all power while driving down road only to kick back on seconds later ... feels like its slamming the suspension hard when it does this.. anyone else with similiar problems??

ne'er mind all... replaced module once more used lots and lots of di grease.... cleaned off cap ... replaced fuel filter .. and got new fuel pump relay ... everything seems to be smooth sailing.. let yo uknow in about month or so if naything occurs but its purring and idling smoother than ever before... good idea to have a relay changed out seems like it could take some good wacks form the hood coming down being on the fender like that..

oh man i'm going to kill myself..... everythign was smooth sailinguntil.... went to local highway and went full throttle up and into the top end of 3rd (manual) at this point it started having what ca best be described as automotive hiccup where the check engine light flips on and off and it stalls then starts... after coming down off the rev into 4th it stopped and went fine.... today it died... turned off and did not start unless i opened the hood and waited a god 5 mins then it turned on just long enough for me to get to a parking lot at which point it is sitting and not wanting to start..... sometimes it will crank properly others it will half crank where it sounds like the starter motor is really trying to not spin.... and it will start only to die a plit second later ... so i believe i am back to square one... the cooling is good ont he truck so im confident that overheating of things is not the problem...i believe my next optionis to search every circuit involved with fuel delivery.... any big problem areas i should know about... changed module 3 times now has new wiring harness .. new starter solenoid and fuel pump relay... ever hear of any problems with the actual distributor and the mating between module or should i focus on looking into fuel delivering components.. i know i a bit whiny but im at my wits end on this... its been a constant battle for months now trying to solve this problem... (wond why i got it so cheap)

I'm sorry to be saying it again but this sounds an awful lot like another inertia switch problem. These are exactly the kind of symptoms you will get when the inertia switch is bad. It electrically between the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump. As a test get someone to turn the ignition switch to on (don't try to start) while you listen for the fuel pump to run. The fuel pump should run for a few seconds immediately after the ignition switch is turned on. If it isn't running then it is likely the inertia switch is bad since you have already replaced the fuel pump relay.

It also sounds like your starter may be bad but that has nothing to do with the stalling problem.

ok i have had a couple of beers and clamed down... i replaced the module.. again.... along with the new fuel filter and fpr and turned off all the amps that are hooked up tot he starter realy ( thought maybe it was over heating form too much power consumption) and for the moment... it is running smoother than in our entire history together.....now i turn on the heater and grey smoke comes pouring out of the vents... proll the heater core tubes or something ..cuz it smells like coolant... and doesnt let me see through my window... im beginning to think it doesnt like me much.... but i will keep it all updated on how this new module works out.. its fomr hong kong.... and someone should make a master thread ofr a problem like this following all the way through listing out like fpr and regulators and pumps and tfi and such.. could make everyones life easier than searching through all threads to try to pick out the right ones... just a suggestion... but thanks for everyones helkp.. ill be going through all connection points with a multimeter to put my mind at ease...

If you smell coolant coming out of the vents I would bet the heater core is bad, real easy to fix.

I would get back to basic stuff, check the fuel pressure and pull the codes.
