I just installed the new Clarion VRX755VD unit in my ,04 F-150. When I go to play a DVD it comes up as Audio Only. Guys at Crutchfield said I have to run a wire to my parking brake in order to play DVDs. They also said I must have the parking brake engaged in order play a DVD.
This seems odd for two reasons. One, this defeats the purpose of the DVD Player and for that matter I know several guys that have In-dash players that watch movies as they drive. Two, the fisrt thing the unit says when it comes on is that it is illegeal for the "driver" to watch the screen while driving. What about the passenger?
Any help would be greatly appreciate. Especially a way around this.
I think the law is the screen isnt supposed to be seen by the driver if it is in fact a DVD.I guess Clarion made it to where you cant play anything while the vehicle is in motion by making you have to have the parking break on. Obviously thedriver cant drive with the parking break on. Weird that it would be like that though, first one I have heard of.
That's most likely the intentions by Clarion. In my case it would work in my '94 f150 because i can just touch the parking brake and it doesn't put the brakes on until i push it down. Ha! But in all seriousness why would you want to watch a dvd if your driving? I mean on the highway it wouldn't be too bad, but in the city it would be distracting. There are people who can get you around this. Its just a sensor telling you the vehicle is not in motion. If you can trick it out to think that your vehicle is in park all the time then your good. lol...I don't know but I've seen it done. I saw a chevy with an in dash dvd unit and he was driving. Not sure if it was clarion.
Your park brake wire needs to see either 12V or ground from the parking brake switch. I would try grounding the wire first, if it doesn't work, attach it to a 12V switch wire, i.e. the ACC. wire would work great. Disclaimer: It it not intended for the driver to watch while vehicle is in motion.
