I bought a in dash clock for my 86 but can't find the wiring to plug into it. I'm pretty sure they all came wired for a clock. The clock came out of a Lariet model. Also bought the wood finish dash bezel for the clock. Does anyone know if the wiring is all the same or not??
I just put a clock in my 86. There should be a plug to the right side of the ashtray. My plug had 5 wires init. The clock only needs 4. You don't use the dome light wire. Using a 12V tester you can figure out what wire is what. You need 1) hot always for clock memory,2) illumination, 3) hot when key is on, 4) can't remeber right now, brian fade. I'm at work, I'll clear this up when I get home. Unless someone else jumps in.
Looking in my shop manual, this is how I wired my clock. 1) grd 2) hot always for memory 3)ignition 4)headlights to dim display at night when lights are on. Again using a 12v tester finding out what wires are what is easy. you don't need to use the domelight feed. Any questions just ask.
Thanks. You guys are a big help. I think there is a pig tail from the 5 pin receptical by the ash tray to the clock plug that I'm missing. I am going to check the donor truck before i do any re-wiring.
Biff,
I had to make my own harness fromk the 5 pin plug for my clock. Got it on e-bay, it came without it. Yes check your donor truck for it, but making the harness was simple if you need to.
In order to set my clock I have to squeeze it between my fingers from the front and back while I push on the buttons. My contacts were also dirty. I pulled the clock apart and cleaned them. The buttons work better, but still need to squeeze it. Try that, it comes apart easily. Other than setting it, it keeps perfect time.
