Is a 360 internally balanced? The 360 in my 70 f100 has a bad vibration problem. My grandpas flatbed has an identicle 360 and it is one of the smoothest running engines I have ever heard. I would like to get mine at least a little better before it rattles the truck apart....
Vibration or shake, how bad? Many FE's came from the factory 360's / 390's were shakers and 100% stock. If you changed a convertor, flexplate, flywheel or pressure plate you can end up with a shaker.Damper is small diameter and less likely to shake. Wake up, quality control on replacement parts is all about profit. Starting with a balanced motor and balancing any replacement parts before installing is paramont or live with a shaker / bearing des******. Sorry, truth can be harsh.
Carl....=o&o>....
Uh, It has been a "shaker" so to say, ever since I got the truck, and I havent replaced any parts that would cause it to do so. It is firing on all cylinders also. Anyways, I believe I will be rebuilding the motor soon so I will have it balanced then. thanks for the input.
As stated above he is "firing on all cylinders". If it's a small vibration or noticeable shake it should appear coming off idle when into 1650 to 1750 rpm's. A pressure plate or torque convertor swap can cause a shaker due to balance tollerances from manufactures. Had a convertor that shook, added a 1" by 1/4" thick brass washer that threaded onto the convertor stub after the nut to smooth it out before ordering another convertor. Custom made took 3 weeks.
