Lifter plunger range leads into oil harmonics, which has nothing to do with the question at hand. The fact of the matter is you can only shim a rocker until it falls out of the geometry range, as far as reliability goes.
I thought you just bolted the pedestal on, colasped the lifter and measure the lash to make sure its within spec? If not than a custom pushrod is needed, so why all the talk about how many turns equal Blah blah blah. school me please! Thanx!

It is just one way of measuring preload.

The fulcrum point changes. When using 1.73 the fulcrum point is the actual pivot point for the rocker. When using 1.578 the fulcrum is actually the tip of the valve. -Just geometry.

that was about what my machine shop guy said to do...so i pulled the shim and cranked em down and had about .030" before it bottomed out...(would that make it lifter post load)
i was kind of following directions from comp and crane web instructions...but had a hard time seeing the double marked pushrod setup and looking at feeler guage...i'm thought preload would have been the measurement towards the upper part of pushrod and when the lifter plunger first started to collapse(and it probable is)
yes and when i was asking about the turns on the allen rocker arm screw...i was trying to make it a little easy on myself...not trusting eyesite and feeler guage...i guess if a guy did it for a living (for 30 or so years) it would be like combing your hair...but i don't do this stuff everyday and hence i ask these crazed questions....and what a great place to ask them...(i've learned to measure twice and cut once) anyway there on...my thanks to everyone
I'm with you there! this site is awsome for instruction on topics most of us common folk don't deal with on a day in/out basis. Q's like yours also help me learn of things I would never think of on my own. Thanx for everyones responses and help with our Q's.Thanx.
