I was looking at a gear swap with my 37 inch tires on my 94 f150 302. I plan to still use it on highway around 65 miles an hour but i still what more snap to it should i go lower.
4.56 still may be too tall of gears for ya, i think you would be happier with 5.13's with a 302 pushing you around! my F350 has 4.10's and 35" buckshots and it does beautifully but i have the torque of the diesel to help me out! not to mention if you plan to go bigger meats one day you will want to go ahead and get 5.13's and be done with it
Thread Hijack: How do those 35" Buckshots do on the road Fishy? I know they're relatively cheap, I just wanted to know how they do pounding pavement. I'm weary of running the 36-37" Hummer tires due to my D44 I'll be swapping in, the 35" tire variety would make me much happier and less worrisome. I do alot of highway though so I need something that is at least acceptable on road.
Yeah, big difference between 302 and 7.3 with 4.10's on big tires. My 3.55 and 30" sucks...
I would go with 4.88's espically with a 302. And if you plan to go bigger you should plan an axle swap. Check this site out to play with ratios and highway speed if your curious: http://www.supermotors.org/vehicles/...tors/index.php.
Oh saurian the military hummer tires are pretty light when compared to a bogger of the same size, i would say a good 25lbs lighter a tire (i have a set and 2spares on the farm, and when compared to my boggers there's a big difference).
I wouldn't be interested in boggers though, mainly mud tires that fall between the BFG AT's and the Swampers. More capable then the AT's, but not as aggressive (or costly) as the Swampers and higher. I need something with good road manners. And something that will play friendly with my D44 when I do go off highway.

i can't stop braggin about how good they are. relatively quiet (although i actually like to hear loud humming rough tires), they balanced well, they are very decent in the mud (our driveway in NC is MUDDY most of the time and it takes a good running start to get to the house!), and so far i haven't been able to tell they are even wearing, gives my truck a very nice stance and more lateral stability b/c of the wider tires and different offset wheels. not to mention they are load range D rated so they will hold up to my gooseneck just fine!
i do strongly advocate them

I can't wait to see how the buckshots are on my sisters truck. I am sure they aren't as good as swampers, but they are about 1/2 the price. As far as gearing, a friend of mine had 4.56s and 37s in his bronco, and it sure is a nice ratio, but he has a 351W.
