I-6 engine rebuild

I have a 1987 f-150 4x4 with an 300 i-6 with a cracked block. I have an mid 70s block. Are the blocks the same if not what year blocks will work.

The only thing that comes to mind is the location of the mechanical fuel pump ...lower left hand side of the block . I suppose you can fashion a plate and use the fuel pump gasket to cover the hole or leave the fuel pump in place and plug its inlet and outlet ports . Other than that , if the other block is in good shape , the rest should be the same .
