I have seen SS hinge pins available for 28-47 Ford pickups but not for 48-52. Has anyone seen them? Also, do the hinge pin mirrors come with their own hinge pin and is it stainless or chrome? Anyone?
Vern, I don't know of any avialable, however on my 54 I drilled out my hindge and used a 5/16 stainless bolts, there approx 3 1/2" long, no threads thur the hindge, I also used stainless washer between the two parts of the hindge. It seems to work very well.

I got stainless pins for my 51 at John's F100s. I bought hinge mount mirrors from Obsolete Ford in Oklahoma and they came with longer pins that I think are chrome. Neither are installed yet.
So you plan to use the chrome pins with the mirrors on the top hinges and SS pins on the bottoms? I wonder if SS pins can be used with the mirrors or if anyone makes door hinge mirrors with SS pins? Thanks for the info.
Mike, what did you do about the bolt heads with the SS bolts? Were these hex head bolts, carriage bolts, or some other kind of bolt?
Wouldn't you have to use antiseize on the SS pins? It would really suck to have the pins sieze. It's hard enough to remove them already. They could be button head bolts.
I don't think stainless steel corrodes does it? That's why I use SS bolts to hold my license plates on. The winter salt doesn't seem to affect them. I don't suppose it would hurt to use antiseize to be sure...
as much problem as I had getting them things out, I think I will put antiseize even with SS. Out of all the things I had to take apart, that was it, hands down.
It didn't cuase any problems, there is plenty of clearence for the head and nut, I then just tac welded the nut in place, also I think if you keep lube on them you'll have no seizing trouble.

For now I'll probably use the chrome on top and stainless on bottom. The pins for the top hinge with the mirror brackets have to be a little longer so I'm stuck with them. I'll polish the heads on the stainless ones a little more to match the chrome ones better. I'm definitely using anti-seize, especially after a couple stainless bolts/nuts I seized up installing the gas tank. "It can't really seize up that bad can it?" Uh yes it can.
This issue with stainless is that stainless on stainless can gall. However galling typically would only occur in examples such as overtorquing stainless bolts into stainless.
