How many lugs are on the axle? Does it have a removable 3rd member? Have you checked for an axle tag? Did you include more info?

I'm pretty sure it is a dana 44 front axle. I don't know if it is the HD version or not.

if you have a fast interent connection, you can find out what you have based on the info in this document from Dana
http://www2.dana.com/pdf/X510-2CVSP.PDF

It's a large PDF file, you will need adobe acrobat reader to open it.

Kind of weird. That axle SHOULD be a D60 but it's not. From the size of that axle tube it looks like a D44 HD to me. Do you have a picture/measurement of the hubs?

I agree with Ivan, I'm 99+% sure it's a 44. Ivan, correct me if I'm wrong, but the guts (r&p, inner axles, axle joints) of the reg 44 and the 44HD are identical; it's the stubs, the spindles and everything outside that are different. So, you need a photo of a locking hub to get a final determination of the axle. That, or can you tell us if it has internal or external hubs?

Ernie, I got no clue about the inner workings of the D44 but the tubes look larger than a D44, and while center portion looks like it could be a D60 but those knuckles look like heavy BJ knuckles whereas they should be kingpin if it's a 60. So this is what makes me think it's an HD 44. But hey, I've been wrong before.

Ivan, if you can go look at your front cover bolt pattern. I'm pretty certain that the bolts on the sides of the cover are not exactly vertical on a 60; but they are on this axle. I don't have anything nearby, and I'm too lazy to search online. I think we can vereify that it's a 44 using the bolt pattern.

By gosh you're right, let me go check the pattern differences. I'll post back when I find out.

Well I'm working out of town but the pics I have of my axle look like the bolts are pretty even so I guess that plan won't work.
