backup sensor turns off?

so i saw the backup sensor off and tried to turn it on but it just turns off again. what's up?

2001 4x4 with a 5.4

It sounds like a bad switch, try taking it out and doing a continuity test on the switch. That to me seems like the most logical place to start.

I know Im late comming to this conversation but I just found the site.
We had the same issue on our 02 excursion. We took it to the dealer (still under warrenty) and they found a bad sensor on the bumper. replaced and problem went away. we also on occasion found a beeping noise in the car while reversing. the dealer said that was a sign of another sensor going out so they replaced the whole set.

you wont be able to see it broken (or at least I couldnt) it was inside the actual unit.
