K&N filter cleaning
Yes, the MAF sensor can also become contaminated which will produce the OBD II fault codes: P171, P174 if you are too liberal with the filter oil. If that happens, use a little Brakleen or some aerosol electronics contact cleaner (like Chemtronics sells) to clean the exposed MAF Sensor components inside the air plenun. The MAF Sensor is downstream from the air filter housing. NEVER, ever touch or wipe the exposed MAF Sensor components with your fingers or a shop towel. Use ONLY the cleaner spray to remove any oil or dust residue from the sensor.
- gently tap a dirty filter on the ground (this knocks off the big chunks)
- spray with cleaner soap, let soak for a few minutes and then rinse it by just running water from a hose run through it from the inside (or backside if it's rectangular). DO NOT SPRAY HARD OR BLOW AIR THROUGH IT (dunno why but that's what it says)
- let dry thoroughly
-apply oil to outside only
I think one oil bottle can be used a few times. I used the whole thing on mine the first time and my air cleaner ended up full of oil.
