Help I am going to put a 460 into my 83 F-150 4x4 can anyone tell me if it is going to fit i know i have to change the bell housing and motor mounts is there anything else i am going to have to cahnge any ansewers will help thanks
It kind of depends on what you currently have. If you have a small block or 300 I6, then you will have to get a tranny with a big block bell housing. The housing on the small block C6 trannies have an integral bell housing that can't be swapped. Motor mounts are a good bet. What are you using for front accessories (A/C, pwr steering, etc.)? Will need a new flywheel, harmonic balancer, possibley throttle linkage and kickdown cable, radiator, reroute vacuum hoses, re-locate cruise control, exhaust system is different?, anyway it somewhat depends on what you're starting with, but the 460 should fit nicely in the F150 engine bay.
thanks for the advice slikness the truck has a t-15 tranny already got new bellhousing fit right up but as far as the exaust goes how will i negoitaite the duel pipes around the transfer case and the orignal motor was the 302 small block hey anymore advice on this radical morph would be great thnx again
Exhaust: Take it to an exhaust shop. They can figure out the routing and do all sorts of magic to get the exhaust to work. I would go with duals all the way back (2 1/4" pipe). If you want to keep it smog legal, then you will need to purchase a couple of cat converters. Mine crosses over my 2WD right at the tail shaft of my C6 auto. Then into individual cats and back to a dual in/dual out Flowmaster 50, cross back over before the back axle and out underneath the bumper with 18" Stainless tips. I had to cross over to the passenger side to avoid my front gas tank. I used universal 12" long DynoMax cats to keep me smog legal.
BTW, ford Racing is advertising a nice 460 stroked to 514 with a hp output of 600. Complete crate including the spark plugs. Nice, cool price of $6,895 for the entier crate.
wow thats a lot of green. I built this one myself its a runner but just enough to through it in the mud or whatever else i'd like. But hey thanks for all the advice much appricated
I agree it's a bit pricey, but they've got a picture of the engine in street rodder and I can just see that thing sitting in my F150, has aluminum heads, strap on a 3" exhaust off some big 2" headers, run them thru some flowmasters....aww the rumble...
I'd have a tough time keeping rear tires on it though.
no im not having the same prob but you need to find a bell housing that came from the make and model year of that truck specificly for the 460 cu and it will clear nicely keep on truckin
