I've been reading with interest the postings regarding this side-gapping business. Now, I made the somewhat stupid move and forked over big $ for the Bosch platinum 4's, which, according to one source on this site, are the commercial equivalent. He seems to be right. My question is this: Has anyone used both--home made, side-gapped and the Bosch big-bucks-boys? From the sounds of those using the home-grown variety, these seem to give better results. What's the scoop?
I am not the person to be addressing your question, you probably should consult one of the mechanics here, but I believe that your expensive plugs are made of more durable materials that both last longer than the altered type and will not potentially crack the ceramic insulation that the regular plugs might do. I saw mention of this problem in a much earlier post (which had a link that had photos of sidegapped plugs, and potential problems ... ie chipped insulation...)
I would be VERY interested in somebody who had lots of experience with the altered plugs addressing the possibility of the ceramic insulation chipping and falling into the cylinder... ie disaster...
