Hubs click while turning

I have a 2001 Ford Ranger Ext Cab 4x4 w/ 40k miles. Since almost day one, both front hubs click rapidly in either a left or right turn. The dealer didn't really know what the cause was and tried tightening something in the front steering system and it actually went away for a few months. Now it's doing it again. The truck has never been driven roughly. I searched the forums but didn't see any clear answer. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
rc

Welcome to FTE!!!

Since the dealer never corrected the problem I would go back to them and get them to correct the problem for free.

I'm sure some of the 4x4 guys will have some ideas too.

i have an edge 4x4 ext cab 4.0 5 speed and just replaced the left(passenger side) front half shaft that was clicking. the clicking sound was very noticable on left hand turns. i currently have 48k miles on the truck, and started noticing the clicking sound from time to time at around 45k. a tire pros dealer replaced the half shaft 2 weeks ago and it took care of the sound.

good luck.

You might check the tire lug nuts also, that sometimes makes the clicking sound when turning. It was that way on mine and finally some genius mechanic tightened them up at least it was under warranty, and no more problems like that.
