I had a 1982 chrysler cordoba ( purchased new ) with the 318 2BBL carb. and it always got 25mpg on a trip. The first fuel injected car I ever owned was a 1987 mercury grand marquis with the 302 engine and it never got over 18mpg on a trip.

My brother's first F-100 ('55) got 23 on a trip, running 60-70MPH. Stock 1974 2bbl351W, FMX, 2.79 gears, and yes, the speedo is correct. It's all in the combination. BTW, the FMX has CONSIDERABLY less hp loss than a C4 or C6.
