99 Ranger 4x4 probs
My son has a 99 Ranger 4x4. The problem is the 4x4 is not engaging. We placed the truck on jacks and put it in drive and then engaged the electronic 4x4. The shift motor works, the transfer case is engaging the fwd drive shaft and the front axles are spinning but the wheels do not. I have a haynes book but its lacking on the 4 x4 system. Do these work off the vacuum system? If they do I cannot find the hose only electric leads and the hose to the brakes.

There also is another option (if the problem turns out to be bad hubs) and that is to engage the hubs permanently, similar to the way the newer Rangers are set up:
