Body lift

If I put a body lift on my 1987 f250 long bed 4x2,will I actually loose traction from my rear tires(245/75/16 mudders)? I know the lift raises the truck's center of gravity but will it effect its performance off-road? I've owned both 4x4 and 4x2 trucks and realize that there is a huge difference when off-roading.

before i answer, i want to know your logic behind that!

how on earth does a body lift affect anything to do with traction?

The higher you get, the less gravitational pull there is. Less gravity = less traction.

I gotta go, the short bus just pulled up outside to take me to school.

I believe the body lift might actually cause more rearward traction. The whole body being up further, I think when he hits the gas, its going to cause the body to lever back with more of the weight getting shifted back.

The only analogy I can think of is a sledge hammer. Hold the maul portion above your hand with your first right underneath against the metal. Rocking it back and forth is easy. Now move your fist down 3-4 inches along the handle and do the same. All the sudden there's more kinetic energy at the farthest detaunts.

I'm probably wrong, just my idea. I don't think that it would affect traction enough to matter...but why not suspension lift? Body lifts aren't as safe, you know.

Brokebroncos insightfull post got me thinking. Just how much weight would he actually loose? I did some digging around and learned that you loose approximately 1 part-per-million by mass of weight for every three meters increase in height. A three inch body lift equals .07620 meters. To make the scales match, adjust the loss to be 1/3ppm and you get the following formula (1/3)*.07620= a total weight loss of .0254 ppm by mass.

Now if you figure that one Milligram in a Kilogram is 1 ppm by Mass, then for every kiligram of bodyweight, a truck with a 3" body lift would be .0254 milligrams lighter. So, a 8500Lb truck is roughly 3855.54 kiligrams and thereforeis 97.93 milligrams lighter. However, when you put the truck on a scale it would actually read about 5 lbs heavier than before the lift becuase of added weight from the blocks.

After I got done running all these ridiculous numbers I realized that since the truck is still sitting smack on the ground nothing would change. The only time this would have any effect is if you hit a bump and go airborn and the entire vehicle rose 3 inches. In conclusion, this has been nothing more than rambling that originated from a disturbed mind....................I think I need to ride the short bus with BrokeBronco.

Depend on the time of day youre driving it. During the day, you are actually closer to the sun because of the body lift, so you lose traction because of the sun's gravity. Then at night traction depends on what part of the year it is and the relation of earth to the other planets. Planets like jupiter and saturn have more gravity than the earth, so you would get more than 3 inches airborn, but planets like pluto actually give you more horsepower and let you rev out higher.

Ah, english class sucks

hopefully it'll be one less bodylifted rig in this world. Thankfully it'll be one less FORD bodylifted rig...

Why would a Chev-it owner body-lift anyways. You can 3" bodylift a Ford and still show HALF the frame of a Chev-it(off a cliff).

I digress...
