My 95 5.8 XLT sputters badly when I step on the gas at highway speeds. It has 170,000 miles on it and I’m scared to think what it might be. The optimistic side of me thinks tune up (it’s been a while). The pessimistic side of me thinks big time engine problems. Any thoughts? Aj
Your optimistic side it probably right. When was the last time it was tuned up? Could need new plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. Start with the cheap stuff first. Also, you might want to check your codes. Good luck!
Codes are what the computer kick out when there is a problem. Is your check engine light on? if so, there is a code stored. You can have these checked at the dealer or most auto parts stores can check now, at no charge.
I agree with Beast12 sounds like fuel filter, remember to change fuel filter, you'll need special tool, ask the parts store for that tool also or you'll be going back. I have '96 just changed fuel filter...big difference, also little better gas milage. you may want to run some fuel injector cleaner through it too.
