Help T-case
OK just got a new(used) t-case from a member on here ...its out of a 95 i belive...it is different i discovered, than the bw-1356 in my 1991..
my truck is a 1991 SilverAnn 5.0L Auto 4spd/od w/ an elect shift tcase...i was told here that they are the same...my mechanic just told me something was different...i havent gotten a chance to go there yet and look at just what...
my haynes manula is telling me that 1991 and before they had speedo cables and mechanical gear assemblies built in there...the post 92 ones DONT...
so basically am i totally screwed on this or can i put in a mech speedo gear or what...i need help immediatly thanx for all info...i compared the tcase to my current one and everything looked top shape...let me know if i can make this non-mech speedo work in place of my old one and if so what i gotta do

i understand that the VSS sensor was moved from the tcase to the rear axel in 92...can i use a 92 rear VSS sensor in my axel or put a mechanical speedo gear in the 95 tcase???? Also could i tear the new case apart and swap it into my blown tcase????

Ahh, yes, the PSOM/VSS combination did away with the speedo gearing all together. I hadn't realized that the gearing was mounted in the T-case, I thought it was in the transmission since not all F-series were 4WD (F-series and Broncos utilized identical driveline components for the most part) and it would have necessitated two different location for speedo gearing between 2WD and 4WD trucks. Interesting, yet frustrating information.
As Kem mentioned, you may be able to swap the guts from the 95 case into the original housing and salvage the original speedo gearing at the same time.
