I just inherited a new problem this morning where when I shut off my truck, the intank fuel pumps keep running. I switched from from front to rear tank. The pump in the front tank would go off, but the one in the rear would start, Is theree suppose to be power at these units when the key is off? I am leaning towards thinking that the fuel pressure regulator is the culprit, I am wondering if any of you all out there have experianced this and what might be the quick fix? The truck is my 91 supercab with a 5.0 ltr.
Can't be fuel pressure regulator it is mechanical. Most likely fuel pump relay. Allthough I would expect it to effect both tanks because they do not use different relays. Posible it could be shorted wires if there is a wire in the harness going to the tank switch that has battery power on it and it got together with the one powering affected tank.
Northerner ,
Nitro is correct with the fuel pump relay most likely being the cause . Because you only use one pump at a time , they both use the same relay . A simple way to resolve it is tap the relay ( 9 times out of 10 the tapping will cause the relay to shut the pump off ) If it shuts off , replace the relay . They are cheap and take like 5 mins to replace .
