I just undercoated the whole undercarrage of that truck around november. and rust is peaking thru already..I realy need to do some suspension upgrades. I wanna get a lift kit.
i bought an 86 awhile back that actually had holes rusted through those bracket that i didnt notice when i bought it. Both sides. It passed inspection too and when i asked about it the inspector said it was a judgement call. Also the shock body was rusted through and the pistons and fluid were out. I got my money back on the truck but before i did i found those brackets online fairly cheap. $50 or so. I was told to drill them out and just use grade 8 bolts to put the new ones on.
It is called poor design, and salt on the roads. See how all the crud can build up? I had to replace the ones on my 79, and 86. A few Ford dealers in NY keep them in stock.
I've seen this on 92-96 trucks. My 95 and my dads 92 F150 have similar rust problems with the leaf spring hangers. I really need to replace mine but im trying to work on my 82 F100. Its funny my 82 F100 doesn't have this problem with the leaf spring hangers but the body has alot of rust which I am fixing. It's got to be a cheaper grade of steel or different alloy than the frame which is why the hangers rust so bad. Mine almost peel off in layers of rust. Fred
jeffs bronco and any spring shop should have them in stock.we changed a set out on another 95 that were rotted, and the local spring shop had them.
jeffs bronco?
spring shop?
we don't have any of those around here. I went to a speed shop that carrys many truck suspension parts, and if they don't, they can get em', and they told me that I'd have to go thru ford for these pecies.
