E4OD Problem
follows: At 55mph, sometimes will shift from 4th to 3rd back to 4th back to 3rd, all in about 5 seconds. Have had a similar problem at 35 to 40 mph. My transmission guy looked at it and really
can;t figure it out.
We did replace the shift pack , but problem is still there.
I don't want to be a part replacer. This has been going on about 9 months and is not consistent. I was hoping for someone who had a similar problem to help,.. Thanks
Dave
Is it really a downshift to 3rd, or is it staying in 4th, but unlocking and locking the torque converter?
You can unlock and lockup the torque converter on purpose to check what its like if you have a tach: At 50 MPH plus, on level road, with even pressure on gas pedal, ease up suddenly on the gas, then go back on gas like before. Tach will jump up 500 RPM higher when torque converter lockup clutch turns off. RPM will stay up for about 5 seconds, then return to the original value when torque converter lockup clutch turns on and engages once again.
We did the test with the torque converter and this worked correctly.
When it happened at slower speeds was driving on a bumpy road , but level, it also downshifted.
One time this last week when I was on the road. it actually did feel like it was just a rise in rpm's. What I mean is, truck went to 4000 rpm's ( was driving 55) but I did not feel the downshift. This was the only time I experienced a lack of downshift.
