You could get a cheap universal electric fuel pump and a couple feet of hose to go into your filler neck then a couple more to go to what your collecting it in. That would get more gas out of the tank than most any method. You would then have this for later projects or you could keep it in your tool box in your truck. Electric fuel pumps have gotten me off the side of the road when the manual pump went out more than once.
Rather than cut the hose, just pull it off one end of the metal line. That way you can stick it back on if your catch can gets full.
One word of caution, Old gas stinks really bad and seems to stick like super glue to everything that it comes in contact with. I would move the truck outside and away from anything that you pass by every day. Wear clothes that you can throw away if needed and use rubber gloves. I have a couple gas tanks pulled from a 86 6 months ago and every time I get near the truck I can smell that funk, and it's sitting out in the open. FWIW
I just did this the other day. I've got a 10 dollar hand-operated siphon pump. I pulled the rubber supply line off of the fuel pump, pushed it right on to my hand pump, put the output in a bucket, and drained the 2.5 gallons pretty quickly.
I figgered a new trick for me today. tip the truck slightly to the neck, Put a hose in to the low point in the tank, wrap the neck and hose with soome saran wrap to make a reasonably air tight seal, blow into the take thru the with your hand over the neck to help maintain the seal, when u feel pressure at the neck, quickly put the end of the hose in the bucket. When the flow starts, pull off the seal and let the siphon take over. Worked for me. And no gas in the pie hole. BETTER!!

Just wanted to let you know that I used this method. I put the hose into the tank and used electrical tape to seal it up. Blew into the hose to make pressure and it worked like a charm.
Sure glad I didn't have to suck that nasty stuff out.
