I've got less than 2000 miles on an 05 E-350 V-10. Lately she has been sluggish going into drive from neutral or reverse -- sometimes 2 seconds and then with a pronounced clunk. I have the same hard shift when the torque converter locks up on the highway...it grabs so abruptly it startles my wife. Running thru the gears she's fine.
I'm going to take it back to Ford for a look, just thought a little insite might be of value.
i was going to say the same thing. do a search for the ts recall . find the affected dates crawl under your truck and check the big white sticker on the left side of the main trans case just over the pan. it gives the build date of the trans. you may just have one of them if you did not get the recall notice. or you have a problem that needs looking at.
good luck
The manufacture date on the trans is November 8 2004. I think that's past the recall date. Also did a recall check on the Ford site for my serial number that turned up nothing. I'll talk to the local Ford folks tomorrow.
Just got back from towing the boat roundtrip to Homer AK from Spartanburg, SC (13,000 miles). I stopped at the ford Dealer in Grants Pass Oregon to ask about the the abrupt shifting trans. They were able to duplicate the 'problem' and called Ford after the trans passed all their spec tests. The factory says, "They will do that when the converter locks up." By the time I got to OR, the shifting problem from neutral to drive or reverse had disappeared, and now that I'm home the converter problem is unnoticable as well.
About 2,000 miles into the trip, the trailer brakes self destructed so I locked them out entirely and used only the van brakes and trans for stopping. I gotta tell you, that Torqshift trans is a home run. With the cruise set, in "Tow/Haul A**" mode she'll keep a steady speed up or down the most challenging hills...on a steep downgrade she'd downshift twice on her own to keep the speed down, winding up to over 4 grand w/ zero throttle...that 10 banger just a hummin'. Anytime you hit the brakes, she'll downshift - and the harder you stomp the brake, the harder she grabs that lower gear...even to the point of chirping the tires.
If you read some of my other posts, you'd know this is not the van I intended to make this trip with, but knowing what I know now, I'd do the 10 banger w/ Torqshift again in a heartbeat.
