Welcome to the site Paul. I like your handle because I call the truck in my sig. " Babe "
The Super Duty Models came out in 98 but they were all called 99s and some people will refer to the second year as 99.5. When they come out with a brand new model as the SD was they are allowed to bring it out early and still give it the new date. Watch for the 07 model out in about a year or less. The truck in my sig. is my 3rd F350 SD. I always get Crew Cabs but the Super Cab is I think is what you are calling a Quad Cab. That is a Dodge name and not fit for the fabulous SD. I think the Ford SD is the greatest pickup on the market and I always drive the competition before I hang a purchase on a new vehicle. I keep buying Fords and until Toyota comes out with a 1 Ton that has a Combined Gross Vehicle Weight of 23000 pounds there is no competition IMHO. Take care, Wrenchtraveller.
Quad cab is a Dodge thing. Ford has had Crew Cabs for quite some time...long before '99 or '00. I seem to remember Crew Cabs on F-600s back in the 70s.
A friend of mine has a 70 crew cab 4X4. There are several mid 70s crew cabs in this area. An article I once read in Classic Trucks said that Ford built their first crew cab in '66. I've never seen one, but I love that body style. The first super cab came out with the new body for 1973.

Ditto. Us Ford guys call them crew cabs, and for good reason. There is more room inside than in a quad cab Dodge. I'm not sure how long they have been around, and they have certainly been more popular in the newer body style trucks, but they were around long before that.
Dodge really does not make a true Crew Cab. They have a "Mega Cab " coming out that is going to be the same as Ford's and Chev's Crew Cab. What they call a Quad Cab is really an extended cab pickup with 4 independant doors. Chev and Ford have clam-shell doors in there extended cab pickups and those only came out in the new SD model . Ford CCs go way back.
The F150 started out with a clam shell door on only one side of the cab as other makes did, then went to both sides. I hate to say it but 4 independant doors are far superior to the clam shells so right now I would have to say that Dodge has the best extended cab body of the big three and the rumour is that their Mega Cab will be even roomier than Fords Crew Cab. My CC is plenty big enough for me and I have had some big people in the back seat of my CC and they love the space.
Does the Dodge Quad Cab have four full-sized doors? I'm not that familiar with Dodge product (arguably as familiar as I care to be ) but I don't think I've ever seen a Dodge with the true Ford Crew Cab layout...
Maybe Dodge doesn't want to pack too many witnesses into their cabs to see their six bangers getting spanked by Powerstrokes.
no, the dodge doors are not full size, nor is the back seat, but the doors are bigger than the doors of a chevy extended cab or ford super cab. like others have said, the crew cab has been around for a long time. super cab has been as well. all superduty super cabs have 4 opening doors. on the f-150, it had an opening door on the driver side in 97 with the new design and on both sides in 99 when they changed the front end slightly.
since everyone is still arguing about who's extended cab is better i will answer your question
the sd's super cabs came out with both rear doors opening from the time they hit the market as a 99 model year as stated above the f150 started as single opening in 97 and then an option for dual opening in 99
