Ok ive been looking across the web and I have not seen anything or any signs of someone dumping a 302 into a aerostar... Has anyone ever done that? far as I know, I havent seen one been done.. Or is the engine compartment to crammed for a v-8? Not something I plan on doing but i am just curious since i found nothing in the forums about it. *imagines a aerostar yanking the wheels off the ground running the quarter mile in 12's* LOL wouldnt that be a evil site, make the sport car guys eyes bug out.
It has been done before...some guy sold one on ebay several years ago. Said that he'd never do it again and that the conversion cost around 20 grand. He did the machine work himself. I plan on doing it myself..either that or turboing a 3.0. So yes it can be done and has been done...but it isnt for the faint of heart.
Yes theres so much room in the engine compartment for the V6 alone I can't imagine the extension work that had to be done I can't see alot of extra space in there for a V8 that would require lots of hand fabrication I guess if your Aero is an extra vehicle and you have lots of time, money, and beer on your hands and loads of determination you could do it.
I have always dreamed of putting a 351 or 390 just behind the driver and passenger seats! With a plexiglass firewall and other saftey features of course.
what frame is the aerostar based on its own or is it basically a ranger/bronco two just a tad bigger. From what I measured in the engine compartment it looks as if the 302 would barely fit in if you grease the entire bay and shoe horn it in.. Hell if the astro van chevy made can hold one and it isnt that difficult to put one in those, then i believe the guy who put one in the aerostar that says it cost him 20 grand... thats a bit extreme even to do a v-8 conversion on a aerostar, I actually gonna do research on this and see if there is a viable solution. I think it may cost a couple grand but 20 grand? he must of gutted the entire thing. Based on measurements the 302 should fit but you would need mounts, custom headers, for starters.. We will see *still imagines a aerostar yanking the wheels and running 12's and making the mustang guys go what the hell!?!? lol
