Ammeter not working

Ammeter not working
Does anyone know where the ammeter in my 1990 E150 Club Wagon gets its signal. It's dead and I'd like to fix it. I recently replaced the external voltage regulator, but it's gauge output lead is for voltage, not amperage.

my ammeter guage ('82 E350) wasn't working either, until i removed and reconnected the big connector on the back of the dash cluster panel. i was swapping in a 100mph speedo [ now i can go faster :-) ] and was pleasantly surprised to see the ammeter working after simply unplugging and re-plugging the panel in. i guess the connection from the harness to the panel's foil traces had got crudded up over the years. you might try that...
