Hi all, I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I just joined the forum today, so please keep the flaming to a warm glow... I recently got a 93 Ranger, and surprize surprize the center arm rest/console hinge is fubar. I have the new part on order (aftermarket one with steel sides vs. big hunk of plastic from ford) and I was hoping somebody could tell me how to get the old hinge out of the arm rest. Any help will be greatly appreciated!
emmm.....EEEEEEEEEEBAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY to the rescue.... $31 with shipping vs. $209 for the whole arm rest/ hinge from ford... now if i can figure out how to change it, i'll be happy!
I think your's is just like my '98, where there are two cover panels on the rear sides of the armrest/console which need to be pried off, exposing the hinge bolts.
I too am curious as to who makes an aftermarket armrest assembly. Could you provide more details?
Umm, I couldn't tell you who makes the darn thing, but if you do a search on Ebay in the auto parts and accessories section (narrow the search by putting in your model, year, make, etc...) you should find them.... i have the arm rest out of the console. Yep two bolts on each side under the snap on covers... but the challenge at hand is getting the old hinge out of the arm rest. I took it out last night and have fiddled with it since then to no avail.... it HAS to come apart... they put it together...lol
Got my new armrest hinge in the mail today, and thanks to the suggestion from dag... cut the bolt of the original with a dremel... and a few minutes to figure out how to pop the new one in (put the very square side in first, vs. the rounded square side.... if you buy one you will see what I mean) and Voila!!! An armrest that is rock solid!!
