Got me a 1990 F-150 ext. cab I-6 last year. Never owned a Ford truck before this. Wanted to extend my thanx to all the knowledgable posters for their info. Now my truck runs like a top! Used several ideas from this forum. Cut old exhaust (rusted out) behind cat and ran out the side (not too loud either). BIG IMPROVEMENT. Also sidegapped plugs and gained power & mileage (18 hwy vs 15). All the extra power cost me about $25. Next step is to go to a 3.55 rearend limited slip if possible to find CHEAP (found the gear ratio calculator on another post). May install a B&M towing shift kit with deeper tranny pan and Crown Vic aluminum rearend housing this summer. I already have a tranny cooler from a 3/4 ton I got at the junkyard for $15. I'd like ta install a 240 head and an RV cam when I can (a family of 5 ain't cheap anymore). Just by being a faithful reader of this forum my truck runs better and I did it on a tight budget. Who says ya have to spend big bucks ta go fast. Thanx again & keep on posting those low budget tips. It's all some of us can afford
I don't know if the computer will handle a 240 head, the compression ratio is 8.4:1 on a stock 300, and mine has ~10.25:1 now, if the computer will handle it, don't plan using regular gas hauling stuff again. Running mine off at the manifold(single exit) it sounds a little like a dragster, the sound of each explosion is distinct, instead of the normal dull I-6 sound, I can only imagine what it'll sound like with a split manifold on it. I have to get me one.
