Hi , My brother has a 90 Ford taurus, he keeps getting stuck with a dead battery everywhere. So far we have put a new alternator and alternator belt. The battery is a sears gold with a 3 year warrenty, and it was purchaced february of last year. My brother brought it to our mechanic, he said that the alternator was putting out, and he tried to charge the battery and it would not take a charge. sooooo... fast forward a day,
My brother was busy, so I offerd to take a trip down to sears to exchange the battery, They put it on some tester that took 40 minuets to test the battery.. Lucky for me there was a tool section in sears, which kept me busy, but anyway the guy said the battery checked out fine. By this time I was out of patients so I bought a new one..
I know that the battery is bad, but they wont take it back. I tried it on our charger at home, it takes about half charge then dosnt charge up any more. The sears guy says " the computer dosnt lie"
argh, not sure what to do. Am I stuck with this battery now?

Go back, ask to see the Dept. manager. When he sidesteps you, move on to the OM (Store manager). They usually will help. Especially if you carry on as much of the conversation as possible in front of other customers. Demand a refund and replacement. Even though you're 1/2 way through the pro-rated warranty, so it won't pay 100%, you should be able to return the 2nd batt. and make them honor the warranty on the first one.
Don't back down.
Worst thing that happens is, you end up on the phone with Hoffman Estates...
Either way, make em do the right thing.
My diehard Gold battery is fine, so was the one that worked fine for 4 1/2 years, before that. Sears diehards work just fine. I think you need to drive to another Sears Auto, and try again. I am not sure what is going to happen to service at Sears auto. Sears, traditionally, was very good at pleasing the customer, I am worried attitudes concerning 100% customer satisfaction are changing since the merger, I hope you realize that you are now shopping at a deluxe K-Mart, and they may not give us the great service they used to be famous for.
Or, you could see a professional alternator/starter rebuilder, and ask them for a charging system check-up. It is possible there may be an intermittant problem with the alternator rectifier/regulator. If the alternator is not original and has been replaced, make sure it didn't come from a discount auto parts store. The big auto parts chains, sell pure cow pie-quality alternators and starters, if an alternator has a lifetime quarranty, that really means, you will need a new alternator every ten months for the lifetime of your vehicle.
i worked a sears for a few years while i was in school. above the doors in every sears store ( at least when i worked there) and in there ads it states "staifactaion garanted or your money back." go in there and say you are not satisfied and want your money back and if they give you ant grief ask to speak with the store manager. i have seen them take back 5 year old lawn mowers
