Today I was listening to my truck run while th hood was up and I have a lifter tapping on the passenger side. In order to get to the lifter I have to take off the valve cover and in order to get to the valve cover I have to take off the....I guess its called the upper manifold. Its the silver thingy that sits on top of the motor and it says 5.0 EFI. Well this thing, what ever its called is giving me problems. I have diconnected all the hoses in the front, which if I can remember is just the radiator hoses. I can't remember I am not looking at it right now. So the silver thing is lose and it twist back and forth. It almost acts like it has a bolt left in it somewhere but the only place would be up under it and that wouldn't make any sense because I don't know if I could get to it. I know that the ones I took out where two in the front, two on the sides and two in the rear. This is on a 1989 Ford f150 4X4. Thanks.
There are bolts under the '5.0 EFI' plate that hold the upper intake to the lower intake manifold. Use torx head or screw driver (whichever the bolts are) and take that plate off. You should find two bolts under there, two bolts on the front, and two bolts on the back against the firewall.
well I finally got all this crap off and I have run into another problem. I found the lifter that is loose. Its the only one thats loose. When I tighten the bolt, its still loose. None of the other are like this. Its not REALLY lose, I mean I have to put some umpth into it to get it to jiggle around but none of the others do this. Could I have a warped lifter? Reply soon, thanks.
