Is the OEM (expensive) rear slider actually better quality than a the Duo-Vent brand rear sliding window? I'm trying to decide which to buy. I'm worried the Duo-Vent may want to leak sooner than the ford brand or that it may be less theft resistant, if there is such a thing.
I no nothing about either but I will say this. OEM is always better except when you can't get it any more. Ford is phasing out a lot of replacement parts for the 87-94 F Series trucks. We are now in that Limbo between Classic and just worn out. Buy as many OEM parts as you can while you can. The rest will probably come from China.
I just had the slider window replaced yesterday in my 94 as it leaked over the winter and ruined the carpet. So now I'm replacing that tomorrow also.
Mine was replaced at a local auto glass place with whatever their brand was and it looks as good or better than the factory one.
I think anything that you replace your window with will be better than 11 year old technology. If it looks good to you and the rubber seal is pliable it should last as long as the original.
Keep on truckin
Ford wants $235 for one new vs. a Duo-Vent brand that I can get for $105...Just trying to see if it's really worth it to buy the cheaper and have the potential problems of it leaking. I'm guessing it's built cheaper than an OEM one, that's basically my question.
I doubt if Ford's slider is any better than anybody else's. After all, all of their parts are made off site by other contractors. It wouldn't surprise me if the sliders are made in Mexico. That doesn't make them bad either, most of the repo parts on my 53 F100 were made in Argentina or Mexico and they were good.
What I,m saying is the aftermarket can be just as good or better than OEM. Besides the glass shop that put mine in guaranteed it against leakage so that makes it just as good as anything that a Ford dealer would have done for me.
I had the slider window on my f150 replaced in January of this year to a solid for $157.76,thats glass, rubber seal, and they came to me and did the work at my house, and took the old broken window!
I thought about doing that also as we got rid of the truck camper and pull a 5er now. With the extended cab it's all but impossible to reach around and open the window anyway. But it is a nice feature.
Who knows, maybe in another 10 years when this one starts leaking I'll replace it with a solid window.
