oh he means the engine crank shaft thrust bearing.....that's weird...is your truck standard.not too much pressure on that thrust bearing unless it's standard. My 2 cents

Yeah....is it fixed yet? Noise is gone? Wonder what he did really......you don't fix a crank thrust bearing, or thrust bearing when you have an automatic.

Ya that's sort of what I was thinking. And to fix that you have to drop the engine oil pan and it's a big job.I hope jeg2007 didn't get hosed.Definetly not a tranny problem. The only thrust bearing failures I 've seen were on standard transmision applications...

I've seen as many worn thrust bearings with automatics as with standards. In the late 80s, early 90s, Ford had problems with torque converters "ballooning" which caused a lot of pressure on the thrust bearing. The fix was to repair or replace the engine, replace the torque converter and use flex plate bolts with shorter heads so the converter could balloon a bit without pushing too hard on the crank. This could be a similar situation.

final ending

well i had a long block done a month ago, b/c the #1 fuel injector froze open and broke the conecting rod when i tried to start it.

got the truck back after over 3 weeks in the shop, got alomost 1000 miles, when all of the clicking started, the two shops i took it too said it might be the torque converter, took the trans off to see and that is when we found out that the crank was moving, and that the TC was dieing, the trans could have made it w/o a rebuld but decided that the wear that we saw that it could stand to be rebult.
the engine company is paying $45 an hour for the work + parts, the shop i had it done at is covering the differnce.
the new engine arived today, should be goin in tommorow
