I have a 95 Ford Ranger with a 4 cyl. engine. Recently the oil gage started acting up. I was told that the sending unit may be the culprit. I changed that unit and had no success. My question is this, How can I tell if the gage is bad or it is my oil pump? I have a short video of what the gage does which I will post a link to as soon as I get it uploaded. I am hoping you can tell me where to go from here. The pressure never drops into the red, but the needle constantly moves. Is this no big deal? Should I replace the gauge or oven the pump? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
On my 2000 Mazda B3000 (a Ford ranger rebadged), both the oil pressure and the battery charge gauges have only one postion -- about halfway.
I read that although these look like regular gauges, with a needle indicating gradations of pressure or charge -- that these are actually "dumb" gauges with only the one position. They are "dummy" gauges, which do only what a red light would do -- on or off.
Don't know if this applies to your gauges, but I suspect that it does.
