Napa Air filter

I installed a Napa filter late last year (Sept) . In California we should have still been on the summer fuel. My question is before I installed it I was averaging about 15-16mph in town, and towing 8500# at about 12mph. Now, and I think we are still on winter fuel I am getting about 13mph, and towing the same 8500# at about 9.5mph. Those of you that has switched to the Napa filter have you noticed a lose of miliage or could it just be due to the winter fuel? I did notice that when the filter is installed it is exposed to all the hot air under the hood, has anyone address this issue? The truck is running perfect also has no problems.
I have a 03, 7.3, with 32,00 miles, crew cab, 4x4 sht bed with 60hp preditor and Napa filter.

I had no change in milage at all when I switched to the Napa filter. Did mine last year as well. When they switched the fuel blend here my milage has jumped back to normal again.

I can't find for the life of me a link where someone tested the incoming air temps on different intakes. At idle the air temp was up 20 degrees or so, but driving there was hardly any difference at all. Having an open element for an intake doesn't hurt anything.

I installed the napa filter last week and have ran it through 1 tank of fuel so far. I filled up today and checked the mileage. It was 17.7 which is about .5 gal more than usual if I dont use any fuel additive.

Are you buying fuel at a place that goes through alot of it i.e. a truck stop; or local station? I'd start with some cetane booster, and see if that helps. Fuel does get "old".
Just some thoughts.

Grab a couple bottles if Stanadyne fuel treatment and run them in consecutive tanks and see if your mileage comes back. Each bottle should treat up to 60 gallons.

This is a quote from the sheet I got with my Tymar intake:
"Intake Air temp rise over outside ambient temp is only 10 to 20*F higher when moving at 25mph or faster. The largest difference occured while pulling the gross vehicel weight rate up a steep incline and was only 45*F over outside ambient temp."

Some guys route a dryer vent hose to it, but I have never had any trouble. My mileage stayed the same, but my EGT's would drop a lot faster, I also installed a 4" aeroturbine exhaust too.

Could be the fuel. Have you changed your fuel filter?

I got a feeling that the winter fuel is my problem right now. I do use a cetane booster and at this point doesnt seem to matter. We should be in summer fuel by labor day so I'll hope for the best.
