38 galllon sending unit question

Hey guys,
I've got a question about the 38 gallon rear mount tank that I just received. I ordered it from rockauto.com (211.00 shipped) and it didn't come with a new float or even an extender for that matter. Has anyone ever fabricated their own? I was thinking that I could weld in a piece of rod between the float and actual sending unit, resulting in a longer rod to get to the bottom, or could I bend the rod to reach the bottom....any advice is appreciated,
-Jeff

That is a GREAT link! I am thinking the way to do it:

1. Measure the original sending unit
2. Measure both original tank...then new tank depth
3. Do the math...and extend that amount or the difference
4. May need to extend the electrical connection too. That wasn't to clear to me in the picture.

Looking at the link...and the pic...doesn't seem all that difficult. I say this...because in about two or three weeks...I will be doing the same "upgrade" to my '76 F150 4x4. Installing that monster 38 gal tank. Now...I am really looking forward to it!

Just wanted to update this thread, I called rockauto and the guy told me that it's supposed to have the line extension and the longer strap bolts with the tank, he sent me what I was supposed to get and it looks like an easy install now, thanks for all the other info,
