The rear brakes on my truck lock up really easy, and I have to remove my foot from the break pedal to release them. My ford dealer told me that it sounds like the proporting valve has gone south. The ford dealer, NAPA, and the local parts houses cannot get them. Lmc truck has one for a 75 to 79 models. Will that valve work? Can I fix the one on the truck? What is inside those valves? Any help would be helpful.
Is it drum or disc brakes? Its very rare for a prop valve to cause a lock up problem, have you done a physical inspection? Drums could be oversize, or out of round, shoes contaminated.......
Can you give us more specifics?

The F100 has disk brakes on front and drum brakes on the rear.I am use to pickup trucks sliding the rear brakes, it is the starnge way they release that has me baffled. The brakes don't want to release unless I take my foot off of the pedal. I have done a visual inspection, and the only thing that I could not swear to is the size on the drums.
I believe the valve can get out of position and cause braking problems. I'm not sure on the trucks but I had this problem on a mustang and the brake light came on when the valve was out of position.
Update: I took the rear brakes apart last night and found the brakes to be dry, no leakes anywhere, but the drum was at the max dia., and the shoes were near the min thickness.
I went to the parts store and ordered drums, springs and shoes. after I get them installed I'll let you know if that fixed my problem.
